KRKA champions responsible parasiticide use with new pet owner resources

Krka UK’s Animal Health team is reinforcing its commitment to responsible parasiticide use with the introduction of its ‘Ears to Tail’ veterinary practice resources. The materials, including pet owner guides, reception posters and slides to display on waiting room TV, are designed to help practices convey key messages to owners on the importance of discussing this topic with their vet and the importance of a risk-based approach to pet parasiticide choices.

These pet owner materials complement the Krka veterinary professional guide on responsible risk-based parasiticide use for cats and dogs launched last year that was developed in conjunction with Ian Wright BVMS MSc MRCVS. All resources can be downloaded at https://www.krka.co.uk/veterinary-knowledge-hub/articles/risk-based-parasiticide-use-for-cats-and-dogs

Parasiticides are an important tool in safeguarding animal health and wellbeing and preventing zoonotic threats. With a focus on best practice and environmental stewardship, the ‘Ears to Tail’ guides are designed to be friendly but informative for pet owners in making decisions about parasite prevention and treatment. Renzo Di Florio, Krka’s Technical Veterinary Adviser says, “In first opinion veterinary practice, where the majority of consultations last 15 minutes or less, time is short and in-depth discussions are not always possible. The guides provide comprehensive information on common parasites, practical advice on prevention and treatment and information on risk assessment. And by aligning with ESCCAP guidelines, the guides help address the delicate balance between animal health, human health and environmental protection – a true One Health issue.”

The resources are part of a wider initiative to improve the use of risk-based assessment guidance for vet practices and their clients, and to equip veterinary professionals with the tools they need to communicate these key messages to pet owners. Renzo adds, “This initiative is vital. Sustainable development and our environmental responsibilities are central to everything we do. We were delighted to be able to collaborate with Ian Wright, a leading authority on veterinary parasitology and Chairman of ESCCAP. His insights help ensure that the veterinary guidance we provide not only aligns with the principles of environmental stewardship but is also scientifically sound and practical for everyday use in veterinary practices.”
