The challenge 

Develop and write ‘The Modern Vet’s Guide To Opening a New Practice’

NVS Group makes a long-term commitment to support veterinary practitioners with everything they need to run an efficient practice. They wanted to create a digital guide to setting up a new veterinary practice, to be distributed in a targeted way to vets considering opening their own practice. Paul Gilbert, Head of Marketing and Communications at NVS Group explains the aims of the project:

“We’ve been seeing an increased volume in new practice start-ups over the last few years but would like the opportunity to talk to new practice owners earlier on in the process to see how we can support them with varied products and services. In addition to our sponsorship of the New Practice Academy at London vet show, we wanted to create an outward looking digital guide that could really add value and support those looking to take the step into practice ownership.”

We were asked to develop the structure and write the copy for The Modern Vet’s Guide To Opening a New Practice to include expert advice, best practices and essential insights into opening a new veterinary practice and including opportunities to signpost NVS Group’s products and services.

Our solution

We carried out research on the needs of new practice owners and existing resources and identified the need for a comprehensive resource covering multiple areas from finance and set up, through marketing, operations and supply, to recruitment, team development and the personal skills and vision needed as a business owner.

Having developed the framework of The Modern Vet’s Guide To Opening a New Practice, we selected Companion copywriters for different sections based on their expertise, then brought the copy together to be reviewed by practicing vets and business owners.

The content was structured for an engaging digital format, including tips and summaries, learning exercises, quotes, videos and links to further resources.

Results

The Modern Vet’s Guide to Opening a New Practice has been extremely well received.

It has been supplied to participants in the London Vet Show’s New Practice Academy at London Vet Show 2023 and BVA Live 2024, and provided by the NVS Group’s sales team to customers and prospects who are thinking of setting up a new practice.

Hosted in the New Practice area of the NVS website, in its first six months, it was read by 234 readers, a third of those returning to access it multiple times.
