The myths, magic and mayhem of Companion Consultancy

In honour of National Share A Story Month’s theme of ‘Myths, Magic and Mayhem’, Companion Consultancy would like to share a story about the myths, magic and mayhem we’ve encountered through the last year.

Along with the rest of the world, we were faced with the mayhem of the Covid pandemic and negotiating a labyrinth of mythical status involving remote working, home schooling and an uncertain business climate – and of course working to provide PR, digital and marketing services, we also supported our clients through this maze; helping them to communicate to their customers, keep their businesses moving, and respond optimally to swiftly changing circumstances.

Alongside our clients, we saw the magic of creativity coming out of challenge – telemedicine initiatives and pet health apps to aid vet practices in providing vital veterinary care; launches of novel diagnostic solutions and treatment options; breakthroughs in biosecurity products; research partnerships addressing health and welfare issues; a pet ambulance service to allow vulnerable people to access veterinary care for their pets during lockdown; and virtual symposiums providing CPD presentations and workshops for vet nurses.

Our own creativity flourished: we created a live virtual press conference for a client’s product launch, allowing journalists to gather remotely to hear about the science, ask questions, interview key figures, and receive press packs and goody bags. For the same client, we also made connections with key opinion leaders, inviting them to virtual masterclasses to receive bespoke expert tuition in clinical topic areas.

Despite the challenges of further lockdowns, we were able to forge exciting collaborations, including the ‘Veterinary Women in Leadership’ events – an online initiative between our own Veterinary Woman website and XL Vets offering interactive workshops, coached breakout groups and inspirational speakers, which attracted an enthusiastic and engaged audience.

Veterinary Woman also examined some of the challenges of the pandemic specific to women in the veterinary profession, and focused in on themes of supporting well being in veterinary life.

What we have learned – and often marvelled at – is how flexible, creative and resilient we can be; and how from great challenge can come the magic of great innovation, great achievement, and a wider benefit to our industry, profession and society. It’s quite a story to have been part of!
